Back of trade card from Butterflies of the World series, Set 1 (N217), issued in the 1880s by Kinney Bros.Tobacco Company. Card face includes a butterfly with a floral background design. Vertical format. Set 1 (with white background) uses ten of same images as gold background series (Set 2). Two brown ink stamps (on back) -- at top a round Metropolitan Museum stamp and at bottom "Gift of/ J. R. Burdick (underlined). Printed in brown ink: "Butterflies of the World"/ PACKED ONLY WITH/ KINNEY BROS. ' HIGH CLASS/ CIGARETTES (italics and bold)/ **/ THIS COLLECTION OF BUTTERFLIES IS/ SELECTED FROM THE MOST BEAUTI-/ FUL TO BE FOUND ON THE GLOBE./ THE FIFTY, PROPERLY PLACED ACCORD-/ TO NUMBER, FORM A HANDSOME/ BANNER.
