Thesis Print with the Farnese Coat of Arms
Cesare Bassano Italian
Not on view
Large thesis print with the coat of arms of the Farnese family, crowned by a cardinal's hat. It may therefore refer to Odoardo Farnese (1573-1626), in particular. A smaller shield with the Borghese dragon is depicted below. The print is characterized by an architectural loggia. The Farnese coat of arms is placed in front of the central arcade and is held up by Minerva and Ceres. Two female personifications are placed within the loggia. Two mottos are included in panels above the soffit. On the left, an image of flowers is combined with the text "MIXTVM VTILE PVLCHRO", and on the right, a unicorn is accompanied by the motto "PLVS OMNIBVS VNVM".
