Loincloth

Photographer Harry Burton British
1923–25
Not on view
Within the tomb of Tutankhamun were many boxes of folded clothing, including more than 140 triangular loincloths. The example here was laid out and has visible creases where it had been folded. People of all classes wore this ordinary article of clothing, either alone or beneath other garments. As part of the pharoah's wardrobe, it was probably his underwear.
