Paperweight in the shape of a horse

Not on view

This silver standing horse very likely functioned as a paperweight on a scholar’s desk. The horse’s combination of naturalistic details and archaistic pose matches archaeologically recovered depictions in bronze and stone dating to the late thirteenth century.
