Not on view
The box consists of two symmetrical halves, constructed with iron or steel fasteners, and subsequently covered with veneer on all surfaces. The hinge in the center of the rounded spine, and open flat to reveal a marquetry backgammon board in mahogany, walnut and bird's eye maple veneer against a whitewood background. On the exterior, on one side carries a checker or chess board design; on the other side displays the board for the mühle game - both executed in the same three species of veneer. The edges of the box are veneered in alternating strips of mahogany and whitewood to resemble book pages.-- description by Mindell Dubansky in consultation with Marijn Manuels
