Box in book form, with single drawer

between 1800 and 1899
Not on view
The case and drawer are entirely constructed through a combination of nails and glue. The drawer interior contains six compartments; the concave drawer front is fitted with two small turned-wood pulls. The top of the case is painted red, green, black, and gold to create a tartan pattern, with the binding striped in red, black and gold. Both sides and the drawer front bear floral designs in red, green, and orange against a white background. The drawer interior and sides are all white, with black top edging, while the drawer bottom is left unfinished. All painted surfaces are covered with a clear varnish that has degraded and yellowed over time
