Breach
In his moody paintings, Sanya Kantarovsky stages scenes of psychological intensity. Breach depicts an enigmatic visual encounter between a man and an adolescent in a bedroom. Standing at a slightly opened door, the balding man hovers portentously over the shirtless body of a sleeping youth draped across a single bed. Without a fixed narrative, the painting invites interpretations ranging from cruelty to concern. The perpetrator of the titular breach might well be the invasive gaze of the viewer.
