Préparatif pour le départ du Prince et Princesse des Nabots

ca. 1770–80
Not on view
This drawing is a caricature depicting the "prince and princesse of the dwarfs," who are being presented with a huge ornate coiffure by a Baron de Catagon, apparently a purveyor of fashionable hat and air designs, examples of which fill the foreground. The scene takes place in an elegant rococo interior where the aristocratic couple is seated in two small chairs atop an elevated platform.

The drawing is a study for a print, also in the museum's collection (67.734.4).
