Cornelia Thomsen creates vibrant abstract geometric compositions using a minimalist vocabulary and simplified palette. She bases the work on ancient mathematical ratio, which she explains "underpin much of our culture and everything in nature. I was fascinated by this order or basic knowledge that we all share in everything from our DNA to the architecture of Notre-Dame." Each print responds to others in the series, creating a powerful visual effect. In addition to responding to ancient mathematical formulas, the series draws on architecture and design, specifically the modernist vocabulary and rational aesthetics embraced by the Bauhaus artists and architects. These aquatints were made with the master printer and publisher Gregory Burnett of Burnett editions.
