Partial copy of the Ode to the Stone Gate (Shimen song); Painting of cockscomb by a rock
Like the fan nearby, this example bears an excerpt of the Eulogy to the Stone Gate (Shimen song), which was carved into an undulating rock wall in Sichuan Province in 148 CE. At left, Li noted that he copied the Euology following the brushwork of his more famous contemporary, Qi Baishi (1864–1957). Li paired the rough, ancient calligraphy of the Euology with a breezy painting of a blossoming cockscomb flower after the Qing-dynasty painter Gao Fenghan (1683–1748).
