Untitled
McCracken worked in a variety of techniques and mediums to include drawing, sculpture, artist's books, and many forms of printmaking. His styles range from figurative, to surrealist-inspired, to abstract. McCracken made several vividly-colored monotypes such as the one under consideration here and the ones in Harvard's collection. These works feature designs that resemble a close-up view of skeins of colored paint. The works evoke a range of associations including gestural works by Abstract Expressionist artists such as Pollock, as well as European Art Informel artists. Each line comprises multiple colors, a palette that evokes diverse associations to include fabric designs, landscapes, and spin-art in addition to gestural abstraction.
