In The City, Constantino Nivola portrays the energy, motion, and experience of urban living. In this New York City street scene, clusters of people and cars are portrayed in the canyons between rows of dense and towering buildings. Thick, nearly abstract black lines act as contours for buildings, people, and objects such as streetlights. Nivola captures both the vibrancy and the claustrophobia of city living.
