Woman Freedom Now

1971
Not on view
Woman Freedom Now and United States of Attica, both of 1971, are among Ringgold's most important and best-known works in any medium. Part of the Political Posters Series, they were both made in the colors of Black nationalism—red, green, and black. Woman Freedom Now shows the words written backwards and in reverse as if in a mirror in an Op Art design. According to Amiri Baraka the latter is a “modern classic” and was “one of the very first posters designed to address the issues of feminism within the context of Black liberation.”
