Portraitbüste einer Frau mit einer Schriftrolle

Diese feinfühlig gemeißelte Portraitbüste zeigt eine reife Frau mit gedankenvollem Gesichtsausdruck und stechendem Blick. Die Schriftrolle in ihrer Rechten deutet auf eine Vorliebe für das klassische Lernen hin und weist sie als Mitglied der Elite aus. Sie trägt einen Mantel, eine Tunika und eine Kopfbedeckung, wie es sich für eine aristokratische Dame ziemt. Solche Kopfbedeckungen kamen im vierten Jhd. in Mode. Die Büste wahr möglicherweise Bestandteil eines Gedenkensembles, das vielleicht an eine öffentliche Spende erinnern sollte oder zum Hausgebrauch bestimmt war.
