Saint John the Divine

Saint John the Evangelist was the disciple of Christ who was next to him at the Last Supper. The portrayal here refers to later accounts according to which John was handed a cup with poisoned wine from which, at his blessing, a serpent arose. The saint was also a patron saint of the city of Trier.

This object is one of a pair (08.52.1).
