Molti artisti e poeti hanno cercato di catturare l’immagine sfuggente delle onde ingrossate dal vento. La rappresentazione data da Ogata Kōrin trasmette un senso di minaccia, a causa dei lunghi tentacoli irregolari creati dalla schiuma, punteggiati qua e là da qualche apertura. Profilato a inchiostro con l’antica tecnica di disegno cinese in cui si tengono due pennelli nella stessa mano, questo paravento con onde simili ad artigli forse si ispirava a un’immagine del pittore Sesson Shūkei del periodo Muromachi (ca. 1504-ca. 1589). Sul paravento si nota un sigillo con la scritta Dōsū, il nome assunto da Kōrin nel 1704.
