海辺にて
チェイスは1891年から1902年までニューヨ ーク州サザンプトンのシネコックヒルズ夏期美術学校の校長を務め、週に2日教鞭をとったほかは絵画の創作活動と家庭生活を楽しんで過ごしました。この作品では、シネコック湾岸だと思われる海辺で女性と子供たちが遊んでいる様子が描かれています。晴天のもとで優雅にくつろぐのに格好の場所です。この光景はキャンバスの上半分が広い空で覆われており、流れる雲が子供たちの鮮やかな白いドレスの形を思わせます。
