モンテレオーネのチャリオット

ローマ時代以前のイタリアから出土したもののうち最も保存状態の良いこのモンテレオーネのチャリオット(馬車)は、最近の研究に基づいて組み立て直されました。これは戦闘用ではなく、アマサスの棺(74.51.2453)に見られる場面のように、儀式において御者と重要人物を乗せたものです。当時エトルリア人は金属加工の技巧で名声を博していました。この馬車の装飾は、ギリシャの英雄アキレスを主人公に、猛禽類など他の文様をあしらって描かれており、所有者の名声と富を物語っています。
