ベールと面で覆われた踊り子の小像

この踊り子の複雑な動きは、体と密着した幾重にも重なった着衣によってのみ表されています。深いひだが重く垂れた内衣の上に羽織った薄いマントを、右腕、左手、右脚でピンと張らせています。女性の顔は透き通ったベールに覆われ、前に伸ばした右足には紐付きのスリッパを履いています。この踊り子のモデルは、国際都市だった古代アレクサンドリアの名物として知られていた、マイムとダンスを専門とする芸人であることが分かっています。
