ワインの大樽のあるバッカス祭

ルネッサンスの大家アンドレア・マンテーニャは、有名な優れた構図の版画数点を残しています。1470年代に作られたフリーズ彫刻を思わせる《ワインの大樽のあるバッカス祭》と、その対として作られた《シレヌスのバッカス祭》はともに、ローマの石棺に構図の発想を得て作られた作品です。《ワインの大樽のあるバッカス祭》では、マンテーニャは斜めまたはジグザグのハッチングやわずかなクロスハッチングによって、それまでのイタリア版画で見ることのなかった重厚な陰影を生み出しています。幅と奥行きに変化をもたせた陰影技法や、巧みに描かれた輪郭線により、当時のペン画のような仕上がりとなっています。
