ヴィーナスの化粧

ルイ15世の愛妾ポンパドゥール夫人は、ブーシェをことのほか賞賛し、1747年から1764年に亡くなるまで彼を庇護しました。この有名な作品は、パリ近郊のシャトー・ベルビューの着替え室のために彼女が注文した一対の作品のうちの1枚です。ポンパドゥール夫人は、1750年にベルサイユで上演された『ヴィーナスの化粧』と題した劇で主役を演じました。この作品は彼女の肖像画ではありませんが、ブーシェのパトロンへの多少の媚が込められていたのかも知れません。
