ベニスにある有名な連作画に加え、カルパッチョは複雑な象徴を取り入れたいくつかの祈祷のための絵を描きました。この作品はそのなかで最も印象深いものです。右手には、ジョブがヘブライ語で「私は私の救い主が生きておられることを知る」の銘のあるブロックに座っています。左手に隠遁者として描かれている聖ヒエロニムスは、この聖書の一節をキリストの復活に言及するものだと解釈します。中央にはキリストの遺体が破損した王座に置かれ、いばらの冠がその足元に立てかけられています。背景には、左手では荒地、右手では田園風景が描かれ、生と死の対比を暗示しています。
