성모 마리아 두상
시적이며 아름다운 이 소묘는 루브르 박물관 소장품인 레오나르도 다빈치의 회화 성모자와 성 안나에 등장하는 성모의 두상을 위한 습작으로 추정합니다. 이 두 작품은 크기와 묘사에서 밀접한 유사점이 있습니다. 레오나르도 다빈치는 흑색과 적색 초크, 목탄 등 다양한 재료를 사용할 때 문질러서 부드러운 선을 그리며 그의 노트에 기록한 기법인 “연기 방식”(스푸마토)으로 미묘한 음영의 입체감을 표현하였습니다. 공기의 부드러운 표현, 형태의 미묘한 생동감, 빛과 그림자의 섬세한 농담 변화는 레오나르도 다빈치가 과학에 기초하여 광학적 현상을 깊이 이해하고 있었다는 것을 반영합니다.
