팔이 18개 달린 여신(데비)인 이 두르가조각상은 제작 당시에는 대좌 위에 서서 물소 악마 마히샤를 한 발로 밟고서 시바신의 삼지창으로 찔러 퇴치하는 장면을 묘사하였습니다. 악을 물리치고 선이 승리하는 이 장면은 마히샤가 남성신들을 패배시킨 후 일어난 일입니다. 절망에 빠진 남성신들은 두르가에게 그들의 전사가 되어줄 것을 요청하고 각자의 마법의 무기를 주었습니다. 두르가는 물소 악마를 처단함으로써 암흑으로부터 우주를 해방시켰습니다. 두르가는 데비의 힘에 대한 최고의 표현이며 “난공불락의 신, 무적의 신”으로 불립니다.
