Opening of the Met's New David H. Koch Plaza

The newly renovated plaza

«It is a great day for the Met and a great day for the City of New York. More than a century after the completion of the Met's Fifth Avenue facade and forty years after its last plaza renovation, the Museum has revived one of the great outdoor spaces in New York.» Now the approach to the Met matches the beauty of the treasures within. There is shade and beautiful greenery, allées of trees that make us truly a part of Central Park, and magnificent new fountains for our millions of visitors to enjoy as they experience one of New York's favorite theaters: the steps of the Met.

Our Trustee David Koch was among the first to recognize the significance of this project and made it happen, enjoying every complex detail along the way—from the hauling of granite for new fountains and paving stones, to the planting of trees and the installation of hundreds of LED lights, on an area roughly the size of three football fields. We share his pride in this outstanding renovation and are thrilled to share this exciting gift with our city.
