John A. Moran Named Honorary Trustee at Metropolitan Museum

John A. Moran has been elected an Honorary Trustee of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, it was announced today by James R. Houghton, the Museum's Chairman. His election took place at the January 8 meeting of the Board.

Mr. Moran is the retired Chairman of the Dyson-Kissner-Moran Corporation, a private holding company headquartered in New York City with an international portfolio of companies in more than 20 countries that have engaged in manufacturing, retailing distribution, financial services, and real-estate development.

"We welcome John as an Honorary Trustee of the Metropolitan," stated Mr. Houghton, in announcing the election. "With his wife Carole, he has been a strong supporter of the spectacular Roman galleries that opened last spring, where a gallery bears their names. While he has a particular fascination with the culture and history of ancient civilizations, he has a wide-ranging interest in art and a generous spirit philanthropically."

The John A. and Carole O. Moran Gallery for later Roman art and sarcophagi, overlooking Central Park, is the southernmost gallery in the new Hellenistic, Etruscan, and Roman art galleries that opened to the public to critical acclaim in April 2007.

Mr. Moran joined the Dyson-Kissner Corporation as a Vice President in 1967, and became Executive Vice President in 1974, President and Chief Executive Officer in 1975, and Chairman of the Board in 1984. Prior to 1967, he was a Vice President at Blyth & Company Inc. investment bankers, in their New York City and Los Angeles offices. Born in Los Angeles, he holds a B.S. in banking and finance from the University of Utah and also spent three years in the U.S. Navy and served as an intelligence officer on the staff of the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Navy's Pacific fleet.

A major contributor and fundraiser for the Republican Party, Mr. Moran served as Chairman of the Republican National Finance Committee from 1993 to 1995. He subsequently became National Finance Chairman of the Dole for President campaign. He is currently Co-Chairman of the Republican Leadership Council of Washington, D.C.

Mr. Moran has served as a director of more than 30 organizations and companies. He is a current member and former chairman of the National Advisory Council of the University of Utah, from which he also holds an honorary Doctorate of Law degree. He serves as a director of the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah; a trustee of the George and Barbara Bush Endowment for Innovative Cancer Research at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas; and a director of Wynn Resorts in Las Vegas. He is a former director of the United Nations Association and the Foreign Policy Association, and a former trustee of the Brooklyn Museum.
