(New York, May 12, 2021)—The Board of Trustees of The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that it has elected Karen Patton Seymour as a Trustee.
“We enthusiastically welcome Karen Patton Seymour to the Board and look forward to working with her,” stated Board Co-Chairs Candace Beinecke and Tony James, in making the announcement. “A leader in her field, The Met will benefit greatly from Karen’s distinguished experience.”
Ms. Seymour is a partner of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where she is a member of the Management Committee. She has a multidisciplinary practice focusing on corporate governance, crisis management, and complex litigation. She recently rejoined the firm from Goldman Sachs where she served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, and was a member of the Management Committee. At the firm, Ms. Seymour advised the “Launch with GS,” Goldman Sachs’ $500 million commitment to narrow the gender investing gap and to increase access to capital for women and diverse entrepreneurs and investors. Prior to her time at Goldman Sachs, Ms. Seymour was co-managing partner of Sullivan & Cromwell’s Litigation Group. Ms. Seymour also previously held several roles at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, including as chief of the Criminal Division.
Ms. Seymour is a Board Member of the Public Art Fund, an Honorary Trustee at the Vera Institute of Justice, and an Advisory Board Member at NYU Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement. She earned a BA and BS, magna cum laude, from Southern Methodist University in 1983, a JD from The University of Texas School of Law in 1986, and an LLM from the University of London in 1987.
The election took place at the May 11 meeting of the Board. The incumbent will serve as an Elective Trustee.
