The Met Elects Three New Trustees—Ursula Burns, Amy Griffin, and David S. Winter

(New York, March 3, 2021)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that it has elected three new Elective Trustees: Ursula Burns, Amy Griffin, and David Winter.  

“It is with tremendous excitement that we welcome this exceptional group to the Museum’s Board,” stated Board Co-Chairs Candace Beinecke and Tony James, in making the announcement. “Ursula Burns, Amy Griffin, and David Winter are brilliant leaders in their fields, devoted philanthropists, and passionate art lovers and collectors. We enthusiastically look forward to working with them.”   

Ursula Burns 
Ursula Burns is a leader with extensive international experience working with large companies confronting technology change in their industries. Ms. Burns was Chairman of the Board of VEON Ltd. from July 2017 to June 2020 and CEO from December 2018 to June 2020. She was the Chairman of the Board of the Xerox Corporation from 2010 to 2017, and CEO from 2009 to 2016. At Xerox, she helped the company transform from a global leader in document technology to the world’s most diversified business services company and spearheaded the largest acquisition in its history. President Obama appointed Ms. Burns to help lead the White House national program on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) from 2009 to 2016, and, after service as vice chair for five years, she served as chair of the President’s Export Council from 2015 to 2016.  She also provides leadership counsel to several community, educational, and nonprofit organizations. Burns is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, The Royal Academy of Engineering, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She holds an MA in mechanical engineering from Columbia University and a BA in mechanical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York University.  

Amy Griffin 
Amy Griffin is the Founder and Managing Partner of G9 Ventures, an early-stage fund focused on supporting companies that empower consumers to live, look, and feel better. Prior to founding G9, Amy began her career in marketing at Ms. and Working Woman magazines, then worked at Sports Illustrated as a Sports Marketing and Olympic Manager. Beginning in 2011, she leveraged her operational and branding experience to both invest in and work alongside early-stage companies. In 2018, she formalized the portfolio into G9 Ventures. In 2019, she co-founded Social Studies, a next-generation entertaining platform, with Jessica Latham. Ms. Griffin has held board positions at a number of organizations, including KIPP, The Boys’ Club of NYC, The Virginia Athletics Foundation, The Spence School, The Mead Foundation, and One Love Foundation. She also serves as Trustee of the Amy and John Griffin Foundation and recently joined the Board of Directors at Bumble.  Ms. Griffin graduated with a BA in English from the University of Virginia, where she was the captain and MVP of the varsity women’s volleyball team. She lives in New York City with her husband, John, and their four children.   

David S. Winter 
David S. Winter is Co-CEO of Standard Industries, a global industrial company with operations in more than 80 countries and businesses ranging from the world’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer to aggregates, insulation, and solar solutions, as well as the related investment platforms 40 North and Winter Properties. A devoted supporter of The Met serving as member of the Museum’s Chairman’s Council, Mr. Winter is involved in various civic and charitable endeavors, including serving on the Board of Directors of Conservation International and on the Board of Trustees of Carnegie Hall. He is a Trustee of the New York City Police Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors of the Partnership for New York City. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
 
The election took place at the March 2 meeting of the Board. The incumbents will serve as Elective Trustees.
