The Metropolitan Museum of Art Elects Five New Trustees—Gerrard Bushell, Jordan Casteel, Yan Huo, Pablo Legorreta, and Steve Stoute

(New York, NY, December 12, 2023)—The Board of Trustees of The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced today that it has elected five new members: Gerrard Bushell, Jordan Casteel, Yan Huo, Pablo Legorreta, and Steve Stoute. The election took place at the December 11, 2023 meeting of the Board and was announced by Candace K. Beinecke and Hamilton (“Tony”) E. James, Co-Chairs of the Museum’s Board of Trustees. Dr. Bushell, Ms. Casteel, and Mr. Stoute will serve as Borough Trustees; Mr. Huo and Mr. Legorreta will serve as Elective Trustees. 

“We are pleased to welcome five dynamic individuals to our Board,” said Board of Trustees Co-Chairs Beinecke and James. “Each of these trustees bring distinct skills and perspectives, and we are thrilled to work with them in their new capacity at The Met.” 

Gerrard Bushell 

Dr. Gerrard P. Bushell is President and Chief Executive Officer of the $9.5 billion New Terminal One Development at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Dr. Bushell successfully led the team that closed and delivered the largest single asset project financing in US history during a global pandemic carrying it through development, lease, and financial close, design, and construction. From 2019 to 2023, he served as Chair of CAG Holdings, the airport investment platform of The Carlyle Group. In 2015, he was appointed by the Governor of New York and confirmed by the New York State Senate as President and CEO of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, one of the nation’s largest issuers of infrastructure financing and infrastructure management, where he served until 2019. A graduate of Columbia University, Dr. Bushell received a BA, MA, and PhD in urban political economy from the Department of Political Sciences where he holds an appointment as an Adjunct Professor teaching state politics and finance.

Jordan Casteel 

Jordan Casteel is a New York-based artist. She received her BA from Agnes Scott College in Studio Art (2011) and her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from the Yale School of Art (2014).  In addition to The Met, Ms. Casteel’s work is included in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art; the Whitney Museum of American Art; The Studio Museum in Harlem; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Pérez Art Museum Miami; the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art; the Denver Art Museum; the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art; The Minneapolis Institute of Art; the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University; and the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University. Ms. Casteel is the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (2021). 

Yan Huo 

Yan Huo is the Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Capula Investment Management LLP, a global investment manager based in London. Prior to co-founding Capula in 2005, he spent most of his professional career at J.P. Morgan, where he worked in its Derivatives Research and Proprietary Positioning business. Dr. Huo is a Trustee of Princeton University, Fudan University, and the Huo Family Foundation. He holds a PhD and an MA in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and a BS in Physics from Fudan University.  At The Met, he is a major supporter of the renovation of the Oscar L. and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Wing for modern and contemporary art and a member of the Museum’s International Council.

Pablo Legorreta 

Pablo Legorreta is the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Royalty Pharma, an industry leader in acquiring revenue-producing intellectual property in pharmaceutical and biotechnology products. He holds a degree in industrial engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. Mr. Legorreta is the founder and chairman of Alianza Médica para la Salud, a not-for-profit foundation focused on improving the quality of healthcare in Latin America. He serves on the boards of Brown University, The New York Academy of Sciences, Hospital for Special Surgery, the Pasteur Foundation, Film at Lincoln Center, Park Avenue Armory, and The Rockefeller University. A longtime Member of The Met, he is a donor to the current renovation of The Michael C. Rockefeller Wing.

Steve Stoute 

Steve Stoute, a native of Queens, is the Founder and CEO of Translation, a culturally influential creative services company, and UnitedMasters, the leading software and services platform for independent creators. Earlier in his career, he ran divisions for Interscope Geffen A&M and Sony Music. He is the author of The Tanning of America: How Hip-Hop Created a Culture That Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy (2011), which was adapted into a documentary. He is a board member of the Robin Hood Foundation and the Ad Council and is a founding supporter of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
