Sunday at The Met Explores Rei Kawakubo and
Irving Penn with Two Talks in June

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s popular Sunday at The Met series will feature two programs highlighting the major exhibitions Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between and Irving Penn: Centennial. In June, special guests will join the exhibitions’ curators for discussions that explore the revelatory works and creative processes of the two artists.

On June 18, André Leon Talley, Contributing Editor of Vogue, will be in conversation with Andrew Bolton, Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute. They will discuss the work of Rei Kawakubo as well as the curation, design, and major themes of the exhibition, Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between. This event will be livestreamed on The Met’s Facebook.

In conjunction with the exhibition Irving Penn: Centennial, writer Vince Aletti, Executive Fashion Editor of Vogue Phyllis Posnick, and Jeff L. Rosenheim, The Met’s Joyce Frank Menschel Curator in Charge of the Department of Photographs, will take the stage on June 25. They will share their individual expertise while considering the life and work of Irving Penn and his magazine photographs.

Both conversations begin at 2 p.m. in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium and are free with Museum admission.

Sunday at The Met is an ongoing afternoon program providing insight into major exhibitions as well as the Museum’s collection. Each program features a combination of lectures, films, discussions, readings, panels, demonstrations, or performances. Free with Museum admission; no tickets or reservations are required unless otherwise noted.
