Dressing gown

American

Not on view

This is a sophisticated dressing gown enhanced by beautiful colors. The construction of the back is intricate, especially the horizontal ruffles, and probably relate to the 1870s bustle. The complexity of the construction is interesting, for the back is sewn from four pieces originating in the shoulder seam, graduating in size and flaring to the hem.
