The figure of Pantaloon was inspired by 'Pantalon Ancien", François Joullain engraving after Callot published by Louis Riccoboni, in his Histoire du Théâtre Italien, Paris, 1728, pl. 3. For similar versions of this model in the Metropolitan's collection, see also 64.101.92, .93 and 1982.60.301.
