Bottle with stopper

Italian, Venice (Murano)

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 556

During the Renaissance Europeans prized cristallo for its transparency and delicacy. Thinly blown, this tall and elegant bottle recaptures the effects of early Venetian forms. Threads of colored glass provide structure to a vessel that otherwise appears weightless.
