One of Taoism's four supernatural animals, together wi the dragon, the phoenix, and the kirin, the minogame (thousand-year tortoise) symbolizes the element earth. In addition it is the embodiment of longevity, as expressed by its tail of marsh grass. The minogame is also a companion and emblem of two of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune, Fukurokuju and Jurōjin.
