Terracotta cup

East Greek or Lydian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Much restored, this cup appears to be a Lydian imitation of a Chiot chalice. The latter is a vase with two vertical handles and a conical stem, normally covered with a white slip and often decorated with sparse ornament or figural motifs.
