Bronze cuirass (breastplate)

Etruscan

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 170

Body armor, and specifically the cuirass that covered the front and back of the torso, provides a contemporary indication of artists' treatment of the human body. This one shows as sensitive and beautifully executed articulation as one might see on a classical bronze statue.
