Upper part of a marble statue of a woman

Roman

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 153

Copy of a Greek statue of ca. 460–450 B.C.

This is probably a representation of Athena, for the abnormally high crown of the head may once have supported a bronze helmet. The face was broken off in antiquity and reattached.
