Piet Zwart Dutch

Not on view

Zwart created this dynamic image by mounting the cut-out figures of thirteen athletes in action on a series of parallel glass planes then photographing it. Zwart, a member of the innovative Association of New Advertising Designers led by Herbert Bayer in Berlin, was one of several artists, including Kurt Schwitters and Jan Tschichold, who were using experimental photographic methods such as photomontage for book, poster, and advertising design during the 1930s.
