Longchamps Windmill, Bois de Boulogne

Charles Marville French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 692

This windmill was the last remnant of the thirteenth-century abbey of Longchamps. As part of the Bois de Boulogne project, it was restored to picturesque (if not functional) condition, giving well-heeled Parisians a taste of rustic life.
