Dish with flowers, fruits, and butterfly

China

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 221

Encircled by a tightly arranged geometric and floral border, the center of this dish features auspicious fruits and flowers accompanied by a butterfly. Such openwork design is commonly found on both painted enamel on copper alloy and enameled porcelain in the mid-eighteenth century.
