Viscera figure with human head (Imsety)
Third Intermediate Period
Discovered inside the abdominal cavity of Gautsoshen's mummy, this is one of a set of four figures representing the Sons of Horus, the deities that both embodied and protected the internal organs. Gautsoshen's organs had been removed, divided into seven packages, dried, wrapped in linen, and placed back in her body. This figure represents the human-headed Imsety, usually seen as the guardian of the liver.
