Osiris Shroud Inscribed for Nesitaset

Third Intermediate Period

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130

This shroud, bearing a representation of Osiris, Lord of the Netherworld, was spread over the wrapped mummy of the Chantress of Amun, Nesitaset. The inscription asks that the god grant food and all things god and pure to the deceased, thus assuring that she will be nourished as she lives for eternity in the realm of the blessed dead.
