Scarab with Hieroglyphs

New Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130

The underside of this scarab shows hieroglyphs in a tripartite composition, separated by vertical lines. In the center are signs that form the name Amun. The other hieroglyphs can not be identified, but seal-amulets with similar inscriptions are known from Dynasty 18.
