Relief fragment from the mortuary complex of Senwosret I with offering bearer

Middle Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 109

The reliefs from the sanctuary of the funeray temple of Senwosret I are remarkable for their very high relief and abundant painted detail. This fragment, on which is preserved part of the figure of a man carrying a gift of food, comes from the procession of offering bearers that originally adorned the south wall.
