New Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 116

One of the oval baskets (36.3.57) in the tomb of Hatnefer (36.3.1) contained food for the spirits of Hatnefer and family members who were buried in the same tomb. Along with loaves of bread (36.3.73), raisins (36.3.65), and dates (36.3.66) was some sort of pudding (seen here) that has become black and crumbly with age.
