Pendant in the Form of a Uraeus
Middle Kingdom
Not on view
This object is not part of The Met collection. It was in the Museum for a special exhibition and has been returned to the lender.
Middle Kingdom mummies were often provided with objects that assisted the deceased’s transition into the next world. This delicate pendant in the form of a uraeus, an aroused cobra, is one such piece, now unfortunately missing its head. The object connected its nonroyal owner with the king and Osiris, ruler in the afterlife.
