Plaque in the shape of a mythical animal

China

Tang dynasty (618–907)

Not on view

This composite beast has the mane of a lion, tail of a horse, and ribbed chest of a dragon. The flat back of the plaque suggests that it was once attached to a level surface, possibly a piece of furniture.
