Fox Setting Fire to the Tree with the Eagle’s Nest

French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 899

The sixth fountain in the Labyrinth represented "The Eagle and the Fox" fable. Made of lead painted in naturalistic colors, the sculptures spurted jets of water that animated the scenes and created a sense of interaction among the various animals.
