Not on view

This volume, compiled under the direction of Benjamin Franklin, contains the constitutions of the thirteen original American states and the Declaration of Independence translated into French. He ordered more than a hundred copies because he felt that "the extravagant misrepresentations of our Political State, in foreign Countries, made it appear necessary to give them better Information." This particular copy was presented to Louis XVI.
