View of the Palace of Versailles
Thomas Compignié French
Not on view
Embossed with a view of the Versailles facade, this work exemplifies a type of topographical medallion known as a compigné, after its maker. Compigné often applied colored varnishes to heighten the naturalism of his compositions, which were based on engravings.
